WELCOME TO eco Craft
Ecocraft Development Society is a unique platform created by a group of Artisans, Designers and Development Professionals. Artisans are the center stage and helm of all affairs. Designers are brining the access to market, assessing demand and are able to bring the contemporization to the products and craftsmanship. Development professionals are able to strike a fine balance between “Business Mind and Social Heart’. Special emphasis has been given on the social and family welfare of craft and craftsmen. They are an integral part of decision making team, office bearers and reaping the direct benefit.
Rural India has rich heritage of art and craft but it is lacking badly on following, which are required to ensure the relevance/existence in long run are –
- Unorganized and unstructured work force
- Lack of standardization in the products
- Lack of Skill augmentation from time to time – New design, decorative yet utility products, new colors, etc
- Suitable and sustained Market
- Availability of quality and timely raw material
- Credit support
- Use of technology
- Product costing
- Branding and packaging
- Able to survive in competitive market
Team EDS realized that craft and craftsmanship might get extinct if an attempt is not made to work slowly/gradually in order to make the products capable enough to compete on their own.
Therefore, we established EDS in the year 2010 and based ourselves at Jaipur. Members pooled their resources and started working/supporting individual artisans and clusters in very humble manner.
Initially EDS not only pooled in individual contributions but we also have undertaken small government projects to help the clusters with design, marketing, technology, etc. Besides this, EDS has also set a small workshop at its Jaipur, where we provide exposure to artisans with latest technology and direct learning under the supervision of master craftsman and designers.
The workshop has state of the art production facility especially for leather and textile subsectors.
